Since 1970, she has made Charleston her home and has spent her entire adult life painting the scenes and moments that inspire her. Thurman’s impressive career has garnered recognition across the United States and beyond. She was one of just 10 painters featured in the prestigious American Artists in Paris exhibition in 2013, solidifying her reputation as a standout artist on the international stage. Her works have been exhibited with the American and National Watercolor Societies, as well as The Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club of New York. From New York to California, Thurman has won numerous awards for her artistry, and her paintings are included in private, museum, and corporate collections. Her ability to capture the essence of her subjects in both oils and watercolors makes her a favorite among collectors and critics alike.
Education has played a key role in Thurman’s journey as an artist. A graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she earned a degree in Studio Art, she was honored with the Outstanding Alumna Award in 1995. Thurman further refined her craft through studies in Europe and the United States, experiences that expanded her artistic vision and informed her signature style.
