Amiri Farris

Anchored in a respect for the strength of their people, the Gullah-Geechee people carry forward their centuries-old traditions in the arts and crafts, language and culture of today.  The art of Amiri Farris honors the hallmarks of Gullah-Geechee culture and helps preserve the richness of this unique way of life.  Amiri states, "The Gullah Geechee people have preserved much of their African cultural heritage.  It is very important that we tell the history of this unique sea island culture."

Farris received his Masters of Fine Art in Painting following his BFA in Illustration and Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).  His academic appointments include Professor of Fine Arts Foundations USCB and Professor of Fine Arts at Savannah State University.  He is currently a professor of Foundation Studies and Fine Arts at SCAD.  He has steadily created a diverse and inspired body of work that is eagerly sought after by private collectors throughout the world.
